Sea Trout (Sewin) & Brown Trout fishing on the River Teifi

As a general rule, Sewin enter the system as early as April and May. These tend to be the bigger fish and at this time of the season you will rarely make contact with anything less than 4lb. Fishing at this time of the year is not particularly comfortable. It can be slow, to say the least and the nights are quite cold.

June is the time when you see the first sign of the "schoolies", the name given to young Sewin in the 1lb – 2lb category. June, July and the first two weeks of August are prolific for the Sewin Fly Fisher. If we were to choose the best time for the beginner it would be July. July nights are usually quite warm. You can fish some evenings quite comfortably in just a shirt. Sewin at this time of year are in good condition and plentiful, coming quite readily to the fly. It is towards the end of August and into September, they have started to become "stale", losing their silvery coats, and begin to resemble the Brown Trout. As the Sewin season comes to a close, our thoughts then turn to the Teifi Grilse and Salmon.

Brown Trout fishing on the Teifi

Wild Brown Trout in the lower reaches, have declined in numbers over the years many migrate to sea of course and others have been affected by the use of pesticides. Angling associations on the Teifi have periodically added to the idigenous stock of these fish and request anglers to practice a catch and release policy. Coupled with these efforts and more co-operation from farmers, there are some very good fish indeed to be taken from particular spots in these lower reaaches and it's tributaries.

A typical Trout Treck day with us, would see a trip up river to the source of the Teifi and enjoy fishing the beautiful Teifi Pools, dropping downstream to fish the glides and streams of the upper reaches, late lunch at a trout fishery and eventually ending up on the lower reaches. A great day out!! A wonderful way to see the wildlife, and a great way to experience the wild trout fishing the Teifi vally has to offer!

For the still water angler there are many large and small fisheries in the area. Llys-Y-Fran and Hays Castle fishery to name two. We can pre-book any day tickets and boats for you, should you wish.
