Salt Water Fly Fishing

Bass

Salt Water Fly fishing is a growing and most exciting aspect of our sport and in particular fishing for Bass and Mullet. The Teifi Estuary is an important nursery area for Bass as are other nearby coves and beaches. Because Bass are very slow growing, any small fish caught i.e. less than 36cms should be returned to the water as soon as possible. In recent seasons fish 6-8lb have been caught! We start fishing for Bass when the estuary waters start to warm up, usually in June and normally favouring the incoming neap tides. Equipment needed to pursue these fabulous fish is very basic. An already keen trout fisher will definately have what's required at his/her dispoal. To start with, you need 9-10ft rod, with 6-8 weighted line, on a cheapo graphite reel. Put a 100 metres of backing behind weight forward floating and intermediate line (cheap millends will do) and you are almost there..... But not quite..... you need to contact us...... to show you where the fish are, which isn't where they were 20 minutes ago.

Mullet

Described as the British Bone Fish, we are happy to say that the Teifi estuary attracts large shoals of Mullet in a good summer. There is nothing more exciting than casting to fish that you can see... Whether or not he takes is another question, if the answer is yes... Hold on tight! We hope you can join us on the rustic Welsh version of the Florida Flats.
